This assignment was also part of my class, but it was also the first time the whole class worked as a team for a real client the “Zentrum für leichte Sprache Allgäu”.

The task at hand was to create pictograms for people who do not have the ability or the capability to read or understand like other people do. It goes from people with disabilities to analphabets and even to elderly.

In a group we decided quickly that we wanted to do our pictograms in a line art style. Then we chose from the list which category of icons we would like to do, and everyone designed their category. Because we started this project during the COVID-19 lockdown we had regular meetings online with our client to keep him up to date and to get feedback. Because these pictogramms are meant to be used, every single one of them had to be tested by a variety of people with different backgrounds, disabilities, and ages.

The category I worked on was accessibility.
This category turned out to be especially hard because a lot of the pictograms for accessibility are standard and changing them would do more harm than good. So I tried to transform those so they would fit in with the line art style we were going for.

The collection of all the pictograms was printed as a book which will follow as a photo as soon as it arrives.
